Snapchat and Instagram pull Giphy integration because of racist GIF

Speaking to TechCrunch, Snapchat said that GIF were supposed to be PG-rated to make the suitable for the youngest users allowed on the platform.

While the racist GIF has caused some internet backlash, it remains to be seen how and when Giphy will tackle this issue. A tweet by Lyauna Augmon shows the GIF being used within Instagram. In a statement, a Giphy spokesperson said that they removed the GIF after it was discovered.

Both social media platforms removed their Giphy integrations after learning of the issue, TechCrunch reported Friday. The GIF along with racial slur had a disturbing text. The offensive content in it includes a monkey cranking a machine which says "N***** Crime Death Counter", with an announcer saying "Keep Cranking Bonzo, the Numbers Just Keep on Climbing!" ". Below is a screenshot of the GIF". A Snapchat spokesperson tells that the company is very sorry.

Moyes blasts West Ham fans: Gold is an old man
Hart lost his place in December, putting his England place in jeopardy ahead of the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer. The Hammers return to Premier League action on Saturday 31 when Southampton are the visitors to the London Stadium (3pm).

Giphy has not yet responded to our request for comment.

This isn't Snapchat's first run-in with racist content. The image messaging app faced heavy criticism in 2016 for creating an Asian "yellowface" stereotype augmented reality lens which gave people slanted eyes. Snapchat risks an unsavory reputation if it can't keep its content under control.

It means you can promote your friends or favourite influencers much more easily on Snapchat. While this may come as a disappointment to GIF lovers, don't you forget GIFs are active on Instagram's parent company, Facebook. However, Instagram has also ripped off not one feature from Snapchat.
