South African officials face action over Sonny Bill Williams masks

Liz Ellis was disgusted by what's happened in South Africa

The two officials posing with fans in the masks have been identified as Cricket South Africa's head of commercial and marketing Clive Eksteen and head of communications Altaaf Kazi.

Cricket Australia reacted furiously to this photograph: "Cricket Australia spoke to Cricket South Africa officials yesterday to express disappointment with this matter and events that unfolded off-field Friday at St George's Park", a CA spokesperson said.

The masks were an attempt to get under the skin of Warner, who reacted angrily to an alleged personal sledge about his wife Candice from Proteas player Quinton de Kock in the first Test.

That incident is behind a fiery exchange between Warner and South Africa's Quentin de Kock during the First Test.

The South African board, however, released a statement on Saturday apologising to CA and the Australian cricket team.

"On behalf of CSA I extend my honest apologies to the Board of Cricket Australia, its officials, team management, players and their families", CSA President Chris Nenzani was quoted as sating by ESPNcricinfo.

"CSA has taken immediate precautionary steps against the CSA officials allegedly involved in this incident and will follow the organisation's normal internal processes in this regard", a statement read.

Ex-NRL star Williams and the former ironwoman - then known as Candice Falzon - were infamously snapped in a bathroom tryst at the Clovelly Hotel back in 2007, many years before her relationship with Warner.

CSA was forced to do some serious damage control on Saturday.

CSA President Chris Nenzani also weighed in on the matter: "On behalf of CSA I extend my honest apologies to the Board of Cricket Australia (CA), its officials, team management, players and their families". However it is understood security were initially confiscating the masks at the gate until CSA reversed the move.

"We found out because (the spectators) contacted us and we then went to security and got them in. They said "let's take a photo with you guys", he said.

The group who organised for the masks to be distributed to fans spoke about the stunt.

"We're very clear from a stadium perspective that we monitor the behaviour and language of fans".

David Warner is under fire again after South Africa reportedly complained about the way he was treating the ball on day two in Port Elizabeth.
