Spotify is letting users fix inaccurate music info

Spotify Launches Service in Israel at $6 a Month

Spotify utilizes all kinds of futuristic machine learning algorithms to recommend music to its listeners, but the streaming service rolled out a new feature this month that makes use of its human touch.

By experimenting with the tool, Line-In, it hopes to better understand how Spotify listeners interpret music, so that it can improve experiences for both listeners and artists.

A new Spotify "Line-In" feature allows users to suggest edits to the information (metadata) that the streamer has about artists, albums and songs.

Spotify will now let users edit song information

Users can offer edits on a variety of data categories, including explicitness, genre, aliases, languages, mood, tags, artist roles and external URLs. The surveys are presented as multiple choice, with "none of the above" as the default selection and an option to skip questions you don't know. "Sometimes, these problems also affect album titles or artist names".

The tool itself was publicly announced today, but had been in testing since last fall. The company held a festive launch event this morning attended by some of the company's senior executives.

Apple Inc.'s Apple Music is adding subscriber accounts in the a higher rate than Spotify, and is on track to pass the No. 1 streaming service this summer, according to people in the record business familiar with figures reported by the two services. It's a nuanced difference, perhaps, but it doesn't appear that a single user's input would change the metadata on its own.
