EPL: Mourinho reacts to Man City winning title, blasts Man United players

The 1-0 defeat to an Albion side destined for the Championship showcased the exact opposite to last week's triumph and underlined exactly why United have been cut further and further adrift of City since October.

Mourinho described United as "the masters in complicated football" and said they had been guilty of letting their 3-2 victory against Manchester City go to their heads, arguing that they would not be able to sustain a better challenge next season until Paul Pogba, among others, had started to show more consistency.

I don't know if I was the first or if I was the second or the third, but I congratulated them face-to-face when I had the chance to do it.

"I'll tell you what I told him after the match", Mourinho told reporters ahead of facing rock-bottom West Brom on Sunday, where an unlikely defeat would see City crowned champions. "They won because they were the best team and lost only a few points".

"That doesn't make me feel super happy and in my opinion affected for sure some of the people that was too happy".

For all of United's class recently and across season in general, it was a calamity of errors and an unwanted punchline to their campaign.

Pep Guardiola's side won the league with five games to spare, but in a manner most unexpected after a slip-up by their city rivals.

However, Mourinho is confident he can get United back challenging for the title next time out.

"I think we share one thing maybe, the hunger and desire to never be satisfied", said Kompany. It's good for the Premier League as well. I have been lucky to win three but so many I have missed as well.

"It's wonderful. The first time you win it, you think you'll win all of them".

"Everything must be consistent until the last day".

"After beating Manchester City we wanted a winning spirit until the end of the season but today was one of those days".

The first half was a awful advert for the English top-flight.

Romelu Lukaku had one effort superbly saved by Foster but there was no significant build-up of pressure.

Chris Brunt sent in a testing corner from the left and when Nemanja Matic failed to clear, Jay Rodriguez diverted home.

"West Brom is a club I care about a lot", he said.
