First Rohingya family repatriated in Myanmar despite United Nations concerns

"The repatriated Rohingya family did not reach Bangladesh as they used to live on no-man's land", Kamal said while talking to reporters this noon.

The statement said authorities determined whether they had lived in Myanmar and provided them with a national verification card.

"We also appreciate Indian government's initiative for rehabilitation projects in Myanmar for constructing prefabricated houses along with China and Japan, for the Rohingyas", he added.

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday termed ridiculous Myanmar's claim of repatriating a five-member Rohingya family saying that Bangladesh does not have any information about that so-called repatriation.

Myanmar's government announced that it has repatriated the first family of Rohingya refugees, among 700,000 others who fled to Bangladesh escaping from a brutal crackdown.

"The five members of a family. came back to Taungpyoletwei town repatriation camp in Rakhine state this morning", the post said.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali has called for the safe return of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar to have an early solution to the humanitarian crisis as there are security issues.

The statement did not say if any more repatriations are being planned.

The vessel will be the second to arrive in Malaysia this month as the Rohingya flee Myanmar's Rakhine state before the onset of the monsoon season in May brings storms at sea that could endanger their lives.

United Kingdom agrees on 'need to take action' over Syria
The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons tweeted Thursday that a team of its investigators will start work Saturday in Douma.

The UN has said the military-led operations that started last August amount to ethnic cleansing, but Myanmar has denied the charge, saying its troops targeted Rohingya militants.

Bangladesh and Myanmar vowed to begin repatriation in January but the plan has been repeatedly delayed as both sides blame the other for a lack of preparation.

The agreement, signed by UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi and Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque, established a framework of cooperation between UNHCR and Bangladesh on the safe, voluntary, and dignified returns of refugees in line with global standards.

Last week, the most senior United Nations official to visit Myanmar this year, the assistant secretary general for humanitarian affairs, Ursula Mueller, said conditions in Myanmar were not conducive to the return of the refugees.

Waves of violence have forced Rohingya out of Myanmar over the past several years, with more than 200,000 Rohingya refugees already in Bangladesh before last year's exodus.

On Friday, the United Nations refugee agency and Bangladesh finalized a memorandum of understanding that describes the repatriation process as "safe, voluntary and dignified.in line with worldwide standards".

"We look forward to India's continued support in the worldwide arena for the early return of these forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals", he said. They're not officially considered citizens of any country and are largely shunned by Myanmar's mostly Buddhist population.

Tens of thousands of Rohingya fled Myanmar by sea following an outbreak of sectarian violence in Rakhine in 2012.
