Get Some Sleep: Airbus Putting Beds In Cargo

New Airbus beds will let passengers sleep in the cargo hold

Airbus has teamed up with Zodiac Aerospace to design and construct the lie-flat bed berths that will fill the lower area of the plane. "We are now delighted to announce the availability of our next-generation system for the Airbus A320FAM, A330 and A340 fleets along with the first 2 of our launch customers, and for the first time offering a full colour, fully programmable solution".

Finally, airlines have found a way to give you more space to stretch out on flights, but there's one catch: you have to travel in the cargo hold.

Airbus said they have partnered with Zodiac Aerospace, who have expertise in lower deck solutions, to develop new sleeping berths. Geoff Pinner, Head of Airbus Cabin & Cargo Program said. Some airlines have lounges and showers for premium passengers, and Etihad added a private stateroom to its A380s called "The Residence", but most operators simply used the A380's extra room for more seats, a lot of them in economy class. By 2020, planes will be able to swap out the cargo area for luxury sleeper pods during long-haul flights, giving passengers a chance to arrive at their destination without feeling like they've been crowbarred into a sardine can. Holds have in the past been designed as cabin crew rest areas and for religious facilities.

Khloe Kardashian wants to leave Cleveland amid Tristan Thompson's cheating scandals
The video, filmed while the group was outside on a balcony, drew criticism when Brown was seen grabbing a woman's neck. That same video shows another woman placing Thompson's head on her breasts and rubbing her hand over his trousers .

Airbus added that the passenger modules would be easily interchangeable with regular cargo containers, should airlines want to change configuration during a layover or turnaround.

He said several airlines had been positive about the first mock-ups. Adding the option to Airbus new long-range A350 jets "is also being studied".

Airbus is also studying installing sleeping compartments in larger A350XWBs, which could be of more interest to airlines serving this market.
