Missiles Launched at Saudi Arabia Hinder Peace — UN Yemen Envoy

"The Emirati Armed Forces' anti-aircraft defense unit successfully intercepted an Iranian Qassef-1 aircraft", WAM reported.

Upon examining the aircraft, the military team discovered a large quantity of explosive materials meant to be used against the Yemeni forces.

A Saudi-led coalition battling Yemen's Huthi rebels warned them Monday of a "painful" response if they mounted new attacks on Saudi Arabia using what it said were Iran-supplied drones.

Saudi Arabia in March 2015 launched a coalition of Arab states fighting to roll back Houthi rebels in Yemen and restore the country's internationally-recognised government to power.

In a televised speech following the assassination, Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi called on Yemenis to rise up against the Iran-aligned Houthis.

The United Nations' new peace envoy for Yemen said on Tuesday he will present a plan within two months to re-launch negotiations to end the war but warned that missile strikes on Saudi Arabia risked derailing the effort.

"Our concern is that any of these developments may, in a stroke, take peace off the table".

"If the Huthis continue targeting industrial or residential facilities, the response will be hard and painful", said coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki, displaying what he claimed were remnants of the intercepted aircraft.

News of the renewed push to capture Hodeidah prompted Yemenis, living under Houthi control in the city and the surrounding region, to flee their homes.

It was sacked in the direction of the city of Najran "to target civilian and populated areas", he added.
