But OU athletic director Joe Castiglione, who was at the microphone when Boren was taken away, said Boren gave a thumbs-up sign after he was placed on the stretcher. The school did not immediately respond to a request for details regarding Boren's condition.

Boren, 76, was carted away from the ceremony in a stretcher Saturday morning after struggling to return to his seat after speaking at the podium. Castiglione told the crowd the paramedics were taking precautions and then implored the crowd to pray.

Boren's 24-year tenure as president ends June 30.

OU officials announced last month that James L. Gallogly will be the next president at the university. Stoops and his wife Carol are at left.
