Champions League final: Zidane to start Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo against Liverpool

While Bale and Benzema may be selected to fill support roles against Liverpool, Madrid will once again be looking to five-time Ballon d'Or victor Ronaldo for inspiration.

Bale is not certain to start for Real Madrid in Saturday's showdown in Kiev, despite scoring five goals in four La Liga games for the reigning European champions.

Real manager, Zinedine Zidane, had been pondering whether to use Bale or Isco.

According to Real Madrid ex-President Ramon Calderon, Welsh forward Gareth Bale was never going to match five-time Balon d'Or victor Cristiano Ronaldo's success at the Bernabeu.

Meanwhile, Keylor Navas has made a number of high-profile errors in the Champions League for Real Madrid, who might look to replace him if he's similarly shaky in the final against Liverpool. "It is great for Gareth, but also for Wales to have somebody representing the country, and somebody who has won so much".

"It does not matter what people say, this is 50/50, like any final is", Zidane told reporters on Friday.

"But he has some way to go".

Several "big" clubs have been linked with Bale including Manchester United, who are said to be leading the race to secure his signature in the event he wants to leave.

Ronaldo, who is 33 now, has gone on to become arguably Real Madrid's best player in the last decade, guiding them to two La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues within 9 years.

Liverpool were undefeated at Anfield in Europe and the Premier League in 2017/18 but the Welshman thinks the neutral venue could just tip the tie in Real's favour.

"It's another thing if he's not happy but I think that's not the case".
