Deadly explosion at California building not accident

1 killed 2 injured in Aliso Viejo gas leak explosion

No children were hurt.

Authorities say one person is dead and two others have injuries after an explosion rocked a Southern California office building.

The Los Angeles Times, citing two law enforcement sources, reported that investigators believed it may have been caused by a package. Neighbors said Krajnyak-Vestil worked as an aesthetician at the medical office building on 11 Mareblu, where the blast occurred Tuesday.

Formal identification of the body was continuing but authorities believe it was Ildiko Krajnyak (IL-di-koh KRY-nyak), a licensed cosmetologist, who owned the spa.

Irene White, a family friend, read a statement Wednesday on behalf of Krajnyak's family. "Investigation is in early stages, as information is confirmed we will share it", the department said in a tweet. Friends set up a fundraising campaign to cover her funeral costs and fly her son home from Seattle, where he attends college. Cause of explosion not determined so far, but it was prompted by a device; unclear how device was delivered.

A voicemail message for the spa, Magyar Kozmetika, said that Tuesday would be Krajnyak's first day back from her trip.

"We do not believe at this time that this was an accident", a representative for the sheriff's office said at a press conference.

Orange County Undersheriff Don Barnes speaks to the media on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 regarding an explosion at a Aliso Viejo medical building the previous day.

According to Orange County court records, Krajnyak was involved in a long-running dispute with a former tenant at a property in Rancho Santa Margarita.

A neighbor there who would only give her first name as Tiffany said Krajnyak lived there with her estranged husband and mother, whom she cared for.

Authorities on Wednesday said the deadly explosion that took place at a medical office building in Aliso Viejo the previous afternoon was intentional.

Earlier, a law enforcement source told CNN that the explosion may have been detonated on goal, but the source also cautioned that the investigation was in its preliminary stages.

'At this point, we do not believe this was an accident, ' said Paul Delacourt, special agent in charge of the FBI's field office in Los Angeles.

The officials say there have been no arrests.

Bommarito said there didn't appear to be a gas leak. They were undergoing surgery Wednesday, he said.

The officials were briefed on the investigation but not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The blast at a suite in a commercial building in Aliso Viejo, south of Los Angeles, occurred at around 1:10 p.m. PST Tuesday, he said. McWilliams says one woman had skin peeling on her arm.

"At this point, our working theory is that this explosion was caused by a device, and although the damage was extensive there are some components that we have located at the scene of the explosion that are inconsistent with what one might expect to find at this business", said Paul Delacourt, the assistant Federal Bureau of Investigation director in charge at the Los Angeles field office. The woman who was killed inside the building was "in close proximity" to the explosion, sheriff's Cmdr.

The scene has been rendered safe, the city said.

A US official briefed on the investigation, speaking on condition of not being identified by name, told The Associated Press the explosion is being investigated as intentional and investigators believe the blast may have come from a package.
