Didier Deschamps explains Lacazette & Martial World Cup squad omissions

Гризманн и Погба вошли в состав Франции на ЧМ-2018

The squad was announced on Thursday evening via the France Twitter handle.

The former West Ham United player was forced off with a hamstring injury in the first half of Marseille's Europa League final defeat against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, and that fitness doubt persuaded Deschamps to leave him out of the squad of 23.

Les Blues may have lost key players like Laurent Koscielny and the latest casualty Dimitri Payet to injury, but they have a large pool of players to select from and are equally considered as one of the tournament's favourite.

His team-mate Florian Thauvin, who has excelled at Marseille after an unhappy spell at Newcastle, is in the squad.

Back on defensive line, left-back Benjamin Mendy was called up although he featured in few games for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

Both Martial and Lacazette are on the standby list of 11 players, which also includes Crystal Palace centre-back Mamadou Sakho, Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma and Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko.

Deschamps has a wealth of attacking options despite the omissions of Lacazette and Martial, with Chelsea's Olivier Giroud competing with the likes of Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann, PSG forward Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele for selection in Russian Federation.

Thomas Lemar-who has scored just three times for Monaco this year-is more of a surprise after his drop-off in form.

France open their World Cup campaign against Australia in the Russian city of Kazan on June 16, before also taking on Peru and Denmark in Group C.

Prior to their departure for Russia, France will take on Ireland, Italy and the United States in friendlies.

Its having the final composition of the team has not found Arsenal forward Alexander Lacazette, winger "Manchester United" Anthony Martial and forward "real" Karim Benzema, whose long-standing conflict with the head coach of the team.
