How About a Honda Civic Type R Pickup?

What if the Civic Type R came as a pickup? Wonder no more

Honda Civic Type R launched in 2017 and was divisive for its unusual styling.

A Honda Civic Type R pickup truck has been revealed at this week's SMMT Test Day, modified and developed by Synchro Motorsport at Honda's Swindon Plant.

Unless you're a boy racer with a dirt bike and a plumbing business, chances are you've never fantasized about a bakkie version of the Honda Civic Type R.

The truck retains the same suspension, powertrain, and gearbox as the standard Type R. It also features the same driving modes, which include Comfort, Sport, and +R.

It was built by a specialist team from the Product Engineering department at the Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM) factory in Swindon.

Honda's United Kingdom arm thought so and created what has been codenamed as the Project P. The pickup truck derivative is developed by the company's Product Engineering division in the United Kingdom and it was displayed at the SMMT Test Day.

Dubbed as "potentially one of the fastest pickup trucks on United Kingdom roads", the wild utility concept is the product of a specialist team from the Product Engineering department at the company's Swindon factory.

It's creators actually did not modify anything on the auto north of the B-pillar.

"Project P" is a Civic Type R with the rear seats, doors and hatch removed to make way for a metal storage bed and roll bar.

While the body from B-pillars back has been mightily chopped around, underneath it's all standard Type R, so turbo four-pot with 316bhp for performance that should not to be too different from the hatchback's 170mph top speed and 0-62mph in 5.8 seconds. The creators say the "truck" will do up to 165 miles per hour and go 0 to 62 miles per hour in less than six seconds.

It's not yet clear what Honda intends to do with this special Type R. Officially, the vehicle is the result of an attempt of the special projects division to show "what their creative minds could do".

"There are no plans to put this into production", Webb added.
