Indiana School Shooting Leaves Teacher and Student Wounded

Suspect In Custody After Shooting At Indiana Middle School

Seaman had released a statement Friday evening confirming he was injured and thanking first responders.

The teacher's family have since revealed that he has undergone surgery and is doing "well". She has not been identified.

"All students are being taken to the Noblesville High School, parents are asked to pick up there", Perrine tweeted. One teacher and one student suffered gunshot wounds. "This happens in high school, not here". He said the suspect asked to be excused from class before returning with the guns, and investigators believe he acted alone. Detectives are investigating how the student got the guns he had, and police have issued several search warrants. If he is a seventh grader, he is between 12 or 13. A student is being treated at Riley Hospital for Children.

His mother, Kristi J. Hubly Seaman, said in a Facebook post that he had been shot three times: once through the abdomen, and one on his hip and forearm.

Another seventh-grade Noblesville student told local media her science teacher charged the gunman, after the shooter entered the classroom and fired a shot at a fellow student.

Seaman's brother, Jeremy, told the IndyStar that Seaman had two young children.

"It's not surprising, to be honest", he said.

"When he was taken to the hospital, I know he was talking", Jeremy Seaman said.

Seaman has been a science teacher for Noblesville schools for almost four years, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was at SIU from 2007-2010.

Noblesville West does not have metal detectors, but does have an armed school resource officer who responded to the shooting. "If he didn't do anything he probably would have continued shooting and a lot more of us would have been injured and possibly killed, so it was just something that not most people would have done but he was really fearless to do it".

"That is a firsthand account..."

Another student was treated for a fractured ankle. Then a science teacher bravely swatted the gun away from the shooter, possibly saving others from getting injured. I thank God that no one was killed. She phoned to tell her father she was alright and recalled the horrifying incident.

"We all had weapons like rake tools and shovels, because we were in the science room".

"We have not received any information that this has been anything other than a communicated threat", Jowitt said. Police are asking parents to have their ID ready and to be patient.

"I'm really grateful for him to be there because without him I'm not sure if all of us would have made it", Sutherland said.

"They're sixth graders. I don't know how they'll go back to school".

"Our daughter, Ella Whistler, was involved in a horrific shooting today at her school". Doug Carter, Indiana State Police superintendent, declined to elaborate on Seaman's role. "It's another sad day".

Bruce Barnes of the Noblesville Police Department added: "It's hard to find the right words to talk about these sorts of incidents when they occur". Her family released a statement saying they were still trying to process "what happened and why". The school's academic year was scheduled to end next Friday.

Noblesville Police Chief Kevin Jowitt said the Friday morning shooting was resolved "fairly quickly", with many crediting Seaman with ending the shooting before things turned more violent.
