Iran nuke deal a big lie

Bolton ramps up rhetoric over Iran, says sanctions on European companies are 'possible'

This agreement remains important for our shared security.

Speaking on "Fox News Sunday, " Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said withdrawing from the 2015 accord wasn't aimed at Europeans, but he didn't rule out the USA imposing sanctions on entities that continue to do business with Iran, even as efforts continue to strike a new deal.

It is with regret and concern that we, the Leaders of France, Germany and the United Kingdom take note of President Trump's decision to withdraw the United States of America from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

So far, China, France, Russia, Britain, the European Union and Iran remain in the accord, which placed controls on Iran's nuclear program and led to a relaxation of U.S. economic sanctions against Iran and companies doing business there.

When pressed by CNN on whether the administration would sanction European firms that continue to do business with Iran, Bolton said, "I think the Europeans will see that it's in their interest ultimately to come along with us". For Kim's tyranny to yield, Washington tries to assure him that his ultimate goal is not to overthrow him, Pompeo said. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas acknowledged, however, that protecting European companies from potential USA penalties could be hard.

The Government's position, in common with its European Union partners, remains that the 2015 deal remains in operation and that former EU and United Nations sanctions on Iran, which had been suspended under the agreement, are not being reinstated.

"I am hopeful in the days and weeks ahead we can come up with a deal that really works, that really protects the world from Iranian bad behavior, " Pompeo said.

Trump wants global inspectors to have greater and faster access to potential nuclear sites in Iran, including those suspected to be housed in its military facilities; an end to its ballistic missile work, which it says is inextricably tied to the delivery of nuclear warheads; a permanent extension of limits on Iran's enrichment of fissile material, which now sunsets within a decade; and a comprehensive policy addressing Tehran's military posture across the Middle East. "Now, that will not happen!"

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has reached out to European signatories of the Iran nuclear deal to seek their continued cooperation in countering Tehran's "malign behavior" following the US withdrawal from the landmark accord.

Germany's minister for economic affairs, Peter Altmaier, said on Sunday that Berlin would try to "persuade the U.S. government to change its behavior".

In an interview with ZDF public television, Altmaier noted that the United States has set a 90-day deadline for foreign firms to comply with the return of sanctions and that this period can be used to convince Washington to change course.

Senator Graham also said the Obama-era deal had allowed Iran to eventually create a nuclear weapon without even violating the terms of the agreement. Macron told Trump in their telephone call on Saturday that he was anxious about stability in the Middle East, according to Macron's office.

Changing the regime in Iran is "not the policy of the administration, " Bolton said on ABC.

Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believe they fueled the argument for a U.S. withdrawal this week after Israel unveiled a cache of Iran's nuclear-weapons files, obtained in a Mossad raid in Tehran earlier this year.
