Las Vegas police release bodycam footage from killer's hotel suite

Police in Las Vegas planned Wednesday to release witness statements and officer reports in the investigation of last year's mass shooting that killed 58 people and injured hundreds in the deadliest event of its kind in modern USA history.

According to one witness, Paddock claimed that government relief camps set up after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 were "a dry run for law enforcement and military to start kicking down doors and. confiscating..."

A man who worked for Caesars Entertainment who had known Paddock for years said Paddock was a regular guest for several years but Caesars took out his favorite video poker machines.

"Sometimes sacrifices have to be made".

The revelation sheds new light and a possible motivation for the deadliest mass shooting in American history.

An unidentified woman said in a handwritten statement that she believed she may have encountered Paddock at a Las Vegas restaurant three days before the massacre. There was no trash in his wastebaskets, she told investigators.

The scheduled release of documents comes more than seven months after a gunman opened fire October 1 from a casino high-rise into a concert crowd of 22,000 people at an open-air venue on the Las Vegas Strip.

One woman (names are blacked out in the police documents) told police: There was a noise to our right.

Paddock later killed himself before he could be arrested.

He described the man who authorities say killed 58 people and injured hundreds as an "odd guy" who liked to talk about gambling and traveling, and who once called screaming to complain that it took 20 minutes for his luggage to be brought to his room. One left a red bandanna on her friend's face.

"Then on the third round of shots is when I got, I got hit running, right in the back", he told an investigator. She made a decision to play dead.

Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said early this month the police investigation was not finished, and pointedly apologised for the release of information that he said would "further traumatize a wounded community".

A host at another casino said Paddock was "kind of an introvert".

Sgt Jeff Clark, a department spokesman, said authorities would not comment about the documents released on Wednesday.

A wounded woman told police she heard what people told her were fireworks while country music singer Jason Aldean was on stage. The release came after news organizations investigating police, emergency responders' and hotel employees' response to the attack sued for the release of videos, 911 recordings, evidence logs and interviews. The department has not provided all the materials it collected.

The footage showed Paddock's body and a number of assault-style weapons and ammunition lying about the hotel suite.
