Manchester turns to music to mark one year anniversary of terror attack

The Ramadhan Foundation would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, I send our love to the survivors, their families and friends.

Another single, lit candle represented the 800 left with physical or mental scars following the bombing, as well as the emergency services and the families of the bereaved. The singer has paid tribute to victims of the attack, including the youngest, Saffie Roussos, who would have turned 9 last July. She closed off the song by blowing a kiss and saying, "Happy birthday, Saffie".

Some 7,000 knitted and crocheted hearts were also dotted around the city centre while a trail of 28 Japanese maple trees had been planted in compost made from last year's memorial flowers leading from the station to the Cathedral Gardens for people to hang "message of hope" on their branches. One note cited U.S. Episcopal bishop Michael Curry's sermon at Saturday's royal wedding: "As a clever bishop said 'there is power in love'".

The "No Tears Left to Cry" singer recently told Time magazine that she is still processing what happened.

To cheers, Manchester United great Ryan Giggs said: 'Manchester is a city of music and is a city of love, and we are sending out love and prayers on this emotional day'.

Those inside the cathedral were joined by thousands more across the country in a minute's silence to remember those killed in the suicide bombing as they left the Manchester Arena.

William read a passage from the Bible's book of Corinthians, ending: "Faith, hope and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love".

"There are so many people who have suffered such loss and pain", she said, sobbing. This day will be hard for you all, but know this - you are not alone, Manchester stands with you.

The lyrics of the song resonate with the message of remembrance and moving forward.

The finale was a mass 30-minute communal singalong including Don't Look Back In Anger by Oasis, One Day Like This by Elbow, Ariana Grande's One Last Time, Never Forget by Take That and The Beatles' All You Need Is Love.

The atrocity was one of a spate of terrorist attacks to hit Britain previous year - the one in Manchester and four in London - that included bombings and deadly violence with vehicles and knives.
