Nigerian mother sues United Airlines for kicking her, children from plane

Nigerian Woman & her Children kicked off United flight after White Man complained she was

This time, United Airlines is being taken to court after a Nigerian woman alleges that she was racially discriminated after a fellow passenger complained she had a "pungent" odor, resulting in the woman being removed from her flight.

Queen Obioma and her two children had already completed the longest leg of their trip from Lagos to Ontario in March 2016 when she says United Airlines singled her out for her race.

The Nigerian family was flying from Nigeria to Canada in 2016 when they had to switch planes in Houston. A flight attendant intervened, but failed to resolve the situation as the passenger refused to move to his assigned seat. The suit claims the woman was taking her children to school in Canada, and United's decision caused them to miss important appointments.

The man who was assigned the seat next to her was in her seat, according to a civil rights lawsuit Obioma filed in federal court in Houston on Friday. After Obiama finally managed to squeeze her way in, a flight attendant came over and said someone needed to speak with her outside. When she went to the restroom before takeoff, she tried to go back to her seat only to find the man blocking her from returning to her seat for several minutes.

However, a crew member approached Obioma before she could sit, and said that the pilot had specifically asked that she be removed from the plane because the same male passenger had complained that he could not fly with her due to her body odour.

According to complaint filed by Obioma's lawyer in Houston, "At that point Ms. Obioma was lost, confused and disoriented. Her mind went blank and she was utterly befuddled", according to the complaint.

"Ms. Obioma watched her minor children marched out of the aircraft like criminals, confused and perplexed".

Obioma alleged that she said "excuse me" to the man three times, but was ignored, according to the Washington Post.

Then in July, a passenger had to hold her 2-year-old son in her lap for four hours because the airline had sold his seat to a standby passenger. An ordinary flyer member of United's Star Alliance app, Obioma says the airline discriminated against her, because she is black, African and literary. Obioma also incurred more expenses, the lawsuit says.

United Airlines' media office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

When the airlines were asked about the incident, a spokesman for the airline informed Fox News in an emailed statement:"We have not yet been served with this suit and due to the pending litigation involved in this matter, we're unable to provide further comment".
