Refereeing decision robs Ireland under 17's in the European Championship

Jeppe Pedersen of Denmark is challenged by Adam O'Reilly

Jimmy Corcoran was shown a yellow card during the European Championship quarter-final against the Netherlands for time wasting. Corcoran saved Redan's spot kick and looked to have kept the Irish hopes alive.

The game was decided in freaky and controversial circumstances as Corcoran thought he had saved the Netherlands final penalty in the shoot-out, only for the referee to rule that he had advanced off his line too early, showing the goalkeeper a second yellow card and ordering the penalty to be re-taken. The resulting finale was pretty much a disgrace; Corcoran was forced to hand his Irish jersey and gloves to teammate Oisín McEntee - a central defender who is not a goalkeeper - and despite his best efforts, Redan scored easily to book the Oranje's place in the tournament semifinals.

The penalty was forced to be retaken, which Redan did to see the Dutch advance to the semis.

There was anger in the Irish camp post-match with Republic of Ireland senior coach Martin O'Neill confronting referee Zbynek Proske.

Facebook reports spike in violent content
That doesn't include what Facebook says are "millions" of fake accounts that the company catches before they can finish registering.

Ireland U17 manager Colin O'Brien said that the referee had warned the Dutch goalkeeper twice previously for moving before the whistle had been blown during the shootout.

The Republic had fallen behind to a Elayis Tavsan header, but were back on level terms two minutes later through Spurs striker Troy Parrott.

But the Irish were level nearly immediately when a clever one-two between Troy Parrott and Jason Knight in the box resulted in the former sweeping home a superb shot.
