Subtropical Storm Alberto could be a rainmaker, but not for Texas

Precipitation potential map

It is on track to intensify as it continues north-northeast before turning north-northwest by tomorrow.

Forecasters say chances are increasing for the first tropical weather system of the year in the Gulf of Mexico. If the storm goes east of the projected track, the impacts will lessen.

Hurricane season is nearly upon us-and the first of some of the season's severe weather is already churning near the Gulf of Mexico.

The storm was almost stationary and maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour.

Many times subtropical storms transform into true tropical storms or hurricanes.

While the tornado threat is on the low side, any tornado activity across Florida this weekend would not be much of a surprise.

By Sunday, we will have a little break with some dry gaps and not as many showers and thunderstorms.

Parts of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana have already seen heavy rain this week, and further deluges could leave those areas vulnerable to flash flooding and river flooding. "This will cause a concern for flooding across east central Florida, especially in areas that received heavy rainfall earlier this month".

Away from beaches, tomorrow's weather may be a bit wetter but not unusually different.

Alberto will likely make it number one.

What sort of wind we get on Monday depends on how Alberto approaches.

Saturday and Sunday are less predictable. Highs in the mid to upper 80s.

New Orleans is now barely in the cone for possible landfall of Subtropical Storm Alberto. The highest winds are also now away from the center.

Stay tuned to NewsChannel 7 throughout the holiday weekend for further updates. Seas will build up to 3 feet Saturday night and peak on Sunday at up to 10 feet in the Gulf of Mexico. "There could be some possible high surf with hazardous high risk of rip currents along the beaches". However it weakened before making landfall and had winds around 45 miles per hour at that time.

No computer model now tracks it into Houston, but some of the more reliable ones do track it as far west as Louisiana.
