Dr. Jerome Adams, an anesthesiologist, said he assisted someone on a Delta Air Lines jet as he prepared to fly Wednesday to Jackson, Mississippi.

It was not immediately clear what happened during the medical emergency.

According to the surgeon general's office, a passenger had lost consciousness and the crew asked for help. Adams and the cabin crew attended to the passenger who eventually regained consciousness, but Adams still determined that the passenger needed to be taken to a hospital so the plane went back to the gate where they were greeted by medics.

Shortly after Dr. Adams posted the selfie, in which it appears he is still on board the plane, Delta replied - thanking him for volunteering, for his service, and for sharing the news.
