Ajit Pai Says Killing Net Neutrality Will Be Really Wonderful

The Federal Communications Commission rollback of net neutrality went into effect today. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai championed the move while commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel opposed

Republican FCC Chairman Ajit Pai has accused Democrats of "scare tactics" in their opposition to net neutrality repeal.

In an opinion piece published on CNET, Mr Pai in the many years of net growth before the neutrality rules "Facebook, Amazon, and Google went from small start-ups to global tech giants".

"Poll after poll after poll after poll shows large majorities of Republican voters in opposition to the FCC's repeal", Karr pointed out. "Blocking, throttling, pay-for-priority fast lanes and other efforts to come between consumers and the Internet are now things of the past, "he said in 2015". The end of the rules comes as House Democrats are pressing for a resolution to reinstate them.

Comcast Corp (CMCSA.O), Verizon Communications Inc (VZ.N) and AT&T Inc (T.N) have pledged to not block or discriminate against legal content after the rules expire.

Over 20 states have joined the fight by banning together in a lawsuit to reverse the net neutrality repeal.

Supporters of net neutrality are concerned that without it, we could lose access to a free and open internet. He has argued that the regulations are too restrictive on businesses and discourage them from investing in network upgrades that could make your Internet service faster and better.

Battletoads Returning in 2019 With New Game
"We will join Master Chief on his greatest adventure yet to save humanity", said Xbox chief Phil Spencer after the trailer aired. CD Projekt Red's long-awaited sci-fi role-playing game got a brand new cinematic trailer at Microsoft's E3 press conference.

Net neutrality means that Internet providers have to treat everyone equally online. On Thursday, with the official repeal date looming, dozens of senators sent a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan urging him to schedule a vote on the issue.

And the last major concern is blocked content. ISPs could change their terms of service to censor content deemed offensive or immoral.

"Those "fast lanes" will put those who won't or can not pay in the slow lane, making the internet look a lot like cable TV", Sohn says. Many ISPs say they are waiting to see what happens with the proposed Net Neutrality rules. Under the old policy, any blocking or slowing of websites would directly run afoul of the rules, inviting immediate enforcement.

It was put in place by the Obama Administration but President Trump made a decision to scrap the rule in December. If you're interested in letting your representatives know where you stand on net neutrality and how you'd like them to vote, you can see a tally of who has and hasn't agreed to support net neutrality here.

Internet service providers (ISP) use zero-rating plans to promote a particular service - usually one they own or have a stake in. At least 29 states have introduced more than 65 bills aimed at protecting net neutrality and seven states - Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Montana, Rhode Island, Oregon and Vermont - enacted executive orders that made it illegal for state agencies to enter contracts with ISPs that don't uphold net neutrality. The Senate last month passed a Congressional Review Act measure 52-47 aiming to overturn the 2017 measure (the CRA is a quick way to overturn newly-passed regulations within 60 legislative days of passage).
