Canada's PM is back-stabber unworthy of Trump's time, trade adviser says

Canada's House of Commons has unanimously condemned personal attacks on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau by US President Donald Trump and his aides as the famously polite nation simmered over the weekend broadsides by its US ally.

In the end, Trump never visited the sessions on climate or the ocean, but held its own news conference, where he slammed "unfair trade" and promised to cut ties with countries that didn't adhere to a "zero tariffs", policy, then leaving for a summit in Singapore.

"My mission was to send a strong signal of strength", Mr Navarro said at the event.

"That's unconscionable", Heyman said."Anybody who represents the United States of America from the White House using that kind of language with any world leader of any type, I think is uncalled for".

In a statement Monday, British Prime Minister Theresa May said: "I want to pay a particular tribute to Prime Minister Trudeau for his leadership and skillful chairing".

Peter Navarro, Trump's top trade adviser, said, "There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad-faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump".

"I have made it very clear to the President that it is not something we relish doing, but it something that we absolutely will do", Trudeau said.

The move caused consternation among other members, leading Trudeau to promise to "move forward with retaliatory measures" in a news conference scheduled after Trump had left.

The relationship between the US and its allies was already off-balance after Mr. Trump just a week before the summit imposed 25% tariffs on steel and 10% tariffs on aluminum from the European Union and Canada.

At his closing G-7 press conference on Saturday, Trudeau called US steel and aluminum tariffs "insulting" and pledged to proceed with previously announced retaliatory tariffs.

During a news conference, Trudeau had reasserted his opposition to United States tariffs on steel and aluminium, and vowed to press ahead with retaliatory moves on July 1.

Navarro's comments came the day after Trudeau vowed not to be "pushed around" by the U.S.in response to Trump's decision to impose stiff tariffs on Canada.

Trudeau had little to say about Trump's threats when asked on his way Tuesday to a Cabinet session with his ministers on Parliament Hill. "That's going to cost him a lot of money". "Canada. Maybe we need a northern wall", he said.

After the G-7 summit, Trudeau hosted a news conference where he said that the Canadian government "did not take" the US tariffs against Canada lightly. You know they put out a document, I don't know if you saw it.
