Crimea status issue closed for Russian Federation - diplomat on Trump’s possible remarks

Russia should be back in G7 as ‘we spend 25% of time’ talking about it anyway – Trump

The leaders of the G7 group spent a lot of their time during last week's summit discussing Moscow, and so having Russian Federation itself at the negotiation table would have been an extremely logical move, US President Donald Trump has said. Skabeeva says jubilantly at the end of the show, which in English translates to "Crimea is ours, Trump is ours!"

Initially, the USA administration, then headed by President Bill Clinton, believed inviting Russian Federation to join in 1997 would encourage the post-Soviet leader, Boris Yeltsin, to approach the ideals of developed democracies with greater optimism and compliance.

President Trump went on to cite Barack Obama for the Russian annexation of Crimea, arguing the Obama administration is to blame for dwindling relations with the country.

This will be the third time that both the leaders would meet face-to-face.

With that said, the USA and most of the global community have condemned Russian Federation for its annexation of Crimea and stand with Ukraine in claiming the peninsula as part of its territory.

It was not clear what Trump thought Obama should or could have done to prevent Putin from seizing Crimea. On Friday, Trump told reporters that a summit with Putin could be "possible".

The defense secretary sounded a more optimistic note on North Korea, saying the recent summit between the United States and North Korean leadership had opened "a possible new avenue to peace".

The diplomatic source also said Trump told world leaders at the dinner that "Ukraine is one of the most corrupt countries in the world" and seemed to question why leaders sided with them over Russian Federation. The vast majority of United Nations member states, including the U.S., recognises Crimea as Ukraine's rightful territory.

He claims, "President Obama lost Crimea, just so you understand". "Because Putin didn't respect President Obama".

President Trump raised Mr. Hussein Obama's infamous "Red Line" in Syria, when he vowed to attack Syria if it used chemical weapons in its civil war, but then backed off the threat when Syria did use chemical weapons.

The French president's office later said Trump's call has been unanimously opposed by the European members of the G7.

His accusation marked the second time in less than a week that Trump blamed his predecessor for Russia's invasion of Ukraine and annexation of Crimea four years ago.
