Duke pays respects at tomb of great-grandmother who saved Jews during Shoah

Prince Charles is heir apparent

The Duke of Cambridge, second in line to the throne, received a red carpet welcome to the Muqata, the Palestinian Government headquarters in the city of Ramallah, that included an honour guard and band.

UK's Prince William said on Wednesday in a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that he was glad "our two countries work so closely together", an apparent nod to Palestinian statehood.

Prince William then went on to reiterate his hope for a peaceful future, saying "Never has hope and reconciliation been more needed".

The prince watched a Palestinian folk dance and met with Israel's recent Eurovision song contest victor Neta Barzilai.

Britain's Prince William speaks with Israeli 2018 Eurovision song contest victor Netta Barzilai during a tour of Rothschild Boulevard, in Tel Aviv.

Prince William is now visiting the country alone as the Duchess is still on maternity leave, but we're sure she was only delighted with this little tribute to her childhood.

He added: "I hope that through my being here and understanding the challenges you face, the links of friendship and mutual respect between the Palestinian and British people will grow stronger".

Though the Prince's visit to the West Bank been billed as "non-political", the official itinerary for William's visit to Jerusalem holy sites Thursday stirred political controversy by listing the Old City as being located in the "Occupied Palestinian Territories".

Gunman kills 5 at Capital Gazette newspaper office, suspected explosive device recovered
There were roughly 170 people in the building at the time of the shooting , and majority were escorted out safely, police said. Two or three other wounded people "with less severe injuries" are being treated at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Schuh said.

Despite the initial upset, however, Israelis and Palestinians welcomed the royal visitor warmly, highlighting the historical nature of the trip and delighting in the legitimacy that his visit brought, the first official trip by a member of the British royal family in 70 years.

In a visit on Wednesday to the West Bank, William met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and toured a refugee camp, on a day that also took him to the Israeli coastal city of Tel Aviv.

The prince tried to deftly dodge politics as he later visited east Jerusalem, which Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast war and annexed in a move not internationally recognized.

The prince met with Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin Tuesday on his first full day in Israel.

There was also grumbling from an Israeli right-wing legislator after a British statement on William's visit listed Jerusalem as being inside occupied Palestinian territory.

"This region has a complicated and tragic history - in the past century, the people of the Middle East have suffered great sadness and loss". Much of the world does not recognize Israel's sovereignty over the eastern part of Jerusalem, which Palestinians hope will become the capital of a future state. "I know I share a desire with all of you, and with your neighbors, for a just and lasting peace".

Minutes later, accompanied by Jewish rabbis, William approached the Western Wall, at the foot of the sacred hilltop, through a passage formed by police barricades that held back a crowd of onlookers.
