Elon Musk says Tesla factory was sabotaged by disgruntled employee

Elon Musk Reckons A Saboteur Has Been Dicking Around With Tesla Production

More than 3,000 workers lost their jobs, and notices filed with the state of California revealed that over 500 employees in Fremont and Palo Alto were dismissed. His solution? Build a giant tent instead, and assemble the cars in that.

In the Monday email, Musk said the saboteur had admitted to altering software in the company's manufacturing operating system, which could have slowed down or complicated production.

Tesla has made around 6,000 Model 3 cars in June, so far, according to a person familiar with the matter. Musk also points out he may not be working alone, and his explanation as to why he carried out the sabotage is suspicious.

An employee of Tesla has sabotaged the company's operations by changing code in an internal product and sharing company data with third parties, chief executive Elon Musk wrote in an email to all employees, CNBC reports, quoting parts of the email.

"As you know, there are a long list of organizations that want Tesla to die", Musk continued.

Tesla has not exactly had the best of weeks with a fire at the factory last Sunday and a few days before that, a Tesla being driven by director Michael Morris and wife Mary McCormack caught fire, with Ms McCormack posting footage to YouTube. CEO Andy Grove's book, "Only the Paranoid Survive".

The billionaire tech entrepreneur has long advanced a viewpoint of Tesla-against-the-world, helping build his upstart vehicle company's reputation as a nail in the tire of Big Auto. But "the public displays of paranoia have become increasingly odd".

More comedy producers are following Seth MacFarlane’s lead by bashing Fox
MacFarlance went so far as to donate millions to NPR on Tuesday, but Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan took it a step further.

That pressure has also seeped into the company's 10,000-employee auto factory in Fremont, California. The company declined to comment.

Tesla is up 8% since the beginning of the year. Musk said the employee had explained his actions with the fact he had been passed up for a promotion.

Musk said the reorganisation did not affect hourly-paid assembly-line employees and was not expected to delay manufacturing targets.

Apparently the employee in question has already admitted to some of these actions, but the full extent of what he did is still to be determined.

While the fire may have been an accident, Musk cautioned vigilance in the building.

Industry experts said it's incredibly rare for a carmaker to sprint toward production goals by pitching a tent.

Saying "humans are underrated", Musk has in the past blamed excessive automation and other factors for production slowdowns.
