"Fair Trade Now Fool Trade", Trump Vents Anger on NATO Allies, Trudeau

U.S. President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a working session at the G-7 summit in Quebec Canada

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro lit into Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday, saying there's a "special place in hell" for a world leader that double crosses U.S. President Donald Trump.

"He really, actually, you know what, he did a great disservice to the whole G7", US White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow told CNN.

Trump tweeted Saturday that he had instructed his representatives not to sign a communique between the seven nations that make up the group just after host Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced all countries had agreed to it.

Having left the Group of Seven summit in Canada early, Trump's announcement that he was backing out of the joint communique torpedoed what appeared to be a fragile consensus on the trade dispute between Washington and its top allies.

Mr Trudeau, who had said at the news conference that Canada would retaliate over new U.S. tariffs, did not respond to questions about Mr Trump when the prime minister arrived at a Quebec City hotel on Sunday for meetings with other world leaders.

Mr Trump arrived in Singapore on Sunday for the summit that could lay the groundwork for ending a nuclear stand-off between the old foes.

His most recent tweets are part of an ongoing argument Trump has made that Canada and other countries have been taking advantage of the U.S. In fact, contrary to his tweet, the U.S. ran a trade deficit in 2017 of $568.4 billion, according to the Census Bureau and Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Trudeau added: "Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around".

"There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump".

No new NAFTA without five-year sunset clause, Trump says at G7
Kudlow said Trump won't let people "take pot shots at him" and that Trudeau "should've known better". The G7 members are Canada, the USA , U.K.

President Trump's trade adviser on Sunday blamed Canada for the failure to finalize a reboot of the North American Free Trade Agreement and suggested the country's prime minister is headed to hell for crossing the U.S. leader.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said it was wrong for Trump to pull out of the joint G7 communique that would have showed solidarity with America's best allies.

Trump also called Trudeau "dishonest and weak", an insult Navarro repeated in his appearance Sunday.

At the moment that opponent is the unlikely figure of Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, California Democrat, said it's one thing for Mr. Trump to get angry, but quite another to ditch the agreement. A senior USA administration official said that Trump had been angered by Trudeau's comments. John McCain, who said Americans would continue to stand with the nation's historical allies.

France is also standing by the G7 communique, a French presidency official said.

Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland had responded to the White House comments by saying that Canada will retaliate to USA tariffs in a measured and reciprocal way and that Canada will always be willing to talk. We spent two days obtaining a draft and commitments.

Trudeau announced Saturday, following the conclusion of the G-7 summit, that he plans to move forward with retaliatory tariffs in direct response to Trump's controversial new tariffs. That came after months of threatening, and then imposing sanctions on America's top trading partners, like Canada.

Trudeau had announced that the G7 members - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the US - had agreed upon a joint communiqué, or formal statement, after a hard week on trade issues.
