France star Lemar set for Atletico Madrid move

The France global, who is in Russian Federation for the World Cup, joined Monaco in 2015 from Caen and made his worldwide debut in November 2016.

Last season, Antoine Griezmann was superb for Atletico Madrid after helping the Spanish club to win the 2017/18 Europa League title.

He had been linked with moves to Liverpool and Arsenal over the past year but now appears set to move to Spain rather than England.

"Over the next days, both clubs will work to close the agreement for the definitive transfer", read a statement on the club's official website.

Griezmann worked actively to bring Lemar to Atletico and is excited to play with him, sources said before the agreement was announced.

But Griezmann has remained tight-lipped on his decision, refusing to reveal his future destination just yet.

Having previously stated that he would announce his decision before France's opening World Cup game on Saturday, Griezmann chose to keep quiet.

Griezmann has been dedicating a lot of time to his decision, and reports claim that he's turned to French teammates while preparing for the World Cup for advice. The current intention at Barcelona to negotiate directly with Atletico and pay more than the player's buyout clause.

"It's good that you're taking an interest", Griezmann said after France's 1-1 friendly draw with the United States.

Lemar, who joined Monaco in 2015, has made 12 appearances for his country since making his debut against the Ivory Coast in November 2016.
