Handshakes instead of sledges to kick off series between Australia and England

Disgraced Australia opener David Warner set to return … in the commentary box

While Scotland broke records for fun during the one-off contest, England made a game out of the chase thanks to the brilliant 59-ball 105 from Jonny Bairstow who became the first England batsman to register three successive centuries in the 50-over format but his side lost the plot despite some enterprising cameos from the lower order.

The 2019 World Cup hosts have just a few days to recover from a stunning one-day global defeat before they face title-holders Australia in the first of a five-match series at The Oval on Wednesday.

Banned test cricketer and former vice captain of the Australian team, David Warner, has been signed by Nine to join the commentary team for the upcoming second one-day global (ODI) against England on Saturday June 16.

England were all out for 365 after Scotland made 371 for five, their highest total in a one-day worldwide.

"We showed we were capable of this previous year against Sri Lanka and then to take the step up to beat a full England side, number one-ranked in the world, is a massive statement from Scottish cricket".

"They don't have to do it but it's something we want to bring in at the start of a series, not before every game", Paine said on Tuesday.

But having seen England beat Australia 4-1 in an ODI series Down Under earlier this year, captain Morgan was confident this loss would not do lasting damage to England's morale.

"You could say maybe [the squad is weakened] slightly without that 150kph Mitchell Starc coming in, but you have another 150kph in Billy Stanlake. if you take out 100 one-day wickets or whatever Starcy has, it will change things a little bit, but it's a great chance for Billy to show his stuff, bowl 150ks and hopefully rip through them".

England captain Eoin Morgan said he has no problems with the ritual.

"I don't think we were far away, we go to a ground now that we know really well in The Oval, and we'll be up for the challenge".

Morgan told the BBC: "We play our cricket pretty hard, positively and aggressively, so we'll continue to do that".

"The way we played, we didn't deserve to win it". That is the bigger shop window rather than personal side of it.

"We were miles off where we expect to be and didn't do enough to win", he said. This should be a catalyst for more games.
