India's Mission For Trillion-Dollar Atomic Fuel On Moon: Remote Media

ISRO chairman K Sivan wants to lead efforts to bring helium-3 from Moon to Earth

I don't want to be just a part of them, I want to lead them, " Bloomberg quoted ISRO chairman K Sivan as saying.

Even though the budget of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) is lower than many developed countries. The administrations of the U.S., China, India, Japan, and Russian Federation are contending with new companies and extremely rich people Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson to dispatch satellites, automated landers, space travelers and visitors into the universe.

The wanderer arrival is one stage in an imagined arrangement for ISRO that incorporates putting a space station in a circle and, possibly, an Indian team on the moon. The government has yet to set a timeframe.

According to Mr. Sivan, India is ready and fully equipped to start the voyage. China's lunar mission was named Change 3 mission and was successfully launched in the year 2013. The dragon also plans to send a probe to the far side of the moon to explore possibilities of water and other precious natural resources like helium-3.

In the U.S., President Donald Trump signed a directive calling for astronauts to return to the moon, and NASA's proposed $19 billion budget this fiscal year calls for launching a lunar orbiter by the early 2020s.

India is preparing its second mission to the Moon, Chandrayaan-2, for launch later this year, to continue its lunar exploration program.

This won't be India's first moon mission. Chandrayaan-1 craft, launched in October 2008, was completed more than 3,400 orbits and pulled out an investigation that first discovered water molecules in the surface.

Under the mission Chandrayaan-2, ISRO is planning to send an orbiter, lander and a rectangular rover to study the surface and search for helium-3. The solar-powered vehicle will collect readings for 14 days and cover a 400-meter radius. The rover will keep sending images to the lander and then the lander will send them back to Earth where the control systems of ISRO will take up for further analysis. There is a limited supply of Helium-3 on Earth.

The presence of helium-3 was confirmed in moon samples returned by the Apollo missions, and Apollo 17 astronaut Harrison Schmitt, a geologist who walked on the moon in December 1972, is an avid proponent of mining helium-3.

India eyes on the south side of the moon for the nuclear energy costing about trillions of dollars and the global energy demands for the next 250 years can be fulfilled if helium-3 is exploited and it is to be noted that helium-3 produced on Earth is found in less quantity making it expensive and this helium-3 shall be used in nuclear fusion process that will not create any radioactive waste. It estimated that a ton of helium-3 could cost $5 billion, taking the total value of the total deposit available to trillions of dollars. Building fusion power plants to convert this resource into energy is another issue that has to be looked at.
