Oppo shows Apple how to eliminate iPhone’s notch with style

Details of the OPPO Find X revealed

Fast-forward to today, and we have a new no-notch Android phone for you from China.

After a few minutes using the Find X we got used the lower quality, but it'll likely be more noticeable when it comes to video playback and gaming. In the meantime, we can only hope that Apple is taking note. At an event here in Paris, the company launched the Find X, which also marks the return of Oppo's flagship Find series.

The Oppo Find X is a striking handset. The Verge reports that once you turn the phone on and swipe on on the lock screen, the camera slider comes up to scan your face. One wonders where the front-facing camera of the device will be. Yeah, it sounds like marketing mumbo-jumbo, but just to put the things into perspective, this phone has an astonishing 93.8 percent screen-to-body ratio. Switch on the camera app and the top of the phone slides open (you don't need to do anything manually) to reveal a dual camera on the back, and a pretty fancy 25 megapixel camera on the front that not only clicks unbelievable selfies, it also works as facial recognition device... because in the quest for purity, the Find X has no fingerprint scanner either. For example, the phone's top slides out every time you unlock the phone with your face, and while Oppo claims this happens in 0.5 seconds, I can see this getting tiresome if you unlock the phone often.

It's a similar approach to Vivo's Nex, but Oppo takes it to a whole new level.

The Find X's software is clearly inspired by iOS, and just like the iPhone X, it relies exclusively on facial recognition - there is no fingerprint scanner. In real life it's "fast enough that it doesn't feel like it will impede use of the device in my day-to-day".

Neither were especially popular on the market, though, and by adding motors to the mix there's always the possibility that Oppo has given the Find X just another way to break down. The front is all display, with a slight Galaxy S9-like curve around the side edges.

The specs sheet will not surprise you.

Coming to the specifications, the Oppo Find X runs on Color OS 5.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo, and sports a 6.4-inch display. This is because Oppo had previously launched a device called N1, which was considered as "one of the most innovative phones of its time".

OPPO has also announced a special edition Automobili Lamborghini edition of the Find X. The Lamborghini edition will include tweaked design with a carbon fibre layer peering through the glass on the rear with a 3D engraved Lamborghini logo on the rear.
