Trump announced on Twitter he had made the decision following comments from Trudeau that Canada would move ahead with imposing retaliatory measures on the United States in response to newly imposed tariffs imposed by the United States on aluminum and steel.

In a dizzying 48-hour period, Trump refused to sign on to the official G7 statement, aired grievances with other leaders on trade, and attacked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is a series of tweets after leaving the summit early.

Those tensions boiled over on Saturday, with Trudeau and European leaders reaffirming plans to institute retaliatory measures and Trump lashing out in response by refusing to endorse the the G7 communique, a negotiated statement on shared priorities among the group.

Freeland said Sunday that she remains hopeful that "common sense will triumph". "We need to stand with our democratic allies". $800 Billion Trade Deficit...

Calling Trudeau "dishonest" and "weak", Trump cited two reasons to withdraw the United States from a joint statement on "free, fair, and mutually beneficial trade", which had been drafted at a summit of the Group of Seven industrialized nations over the weekend.

And Roland Paris, a former foreign policy adviser to Trudeau, jabbed on Trump on Twitter: "Big tough guy once he's back on his airplane".

As Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross wrote previous year, while other nations like to criticize the United States for anti-trade rhetoric, their policies put high tariffs on US goods.

Mr Trudeau has vowed retaliatory action next month over USA tariffs on steel and aluminium.

A Trudeau spokesman, Cameron Ahmad, said Saturday night that Trudeau "said nothing he hasn't said before - both in public and in private conversations" with Trump.

Kudlow, in a separate TV appearance, said Trudeau was "polarizing" and "really kind of stabbed us in the back".

Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland had responded to the White House comments by saying that Canada will retaliate to United States tariffs in a measured and reciprocal way and that Canada will always be willing to talk.

Navarro called Trudeau's comments "nothing short of an attack on our political system". I think that Trudeau has tried the right thing, he's been trying to use flattery and befriend Trump.

Former U.S. Ambassador Bruce Heyman, who served under former U.S. President Barack Obama, has also backed Trudeau.

"Canadians witnessed, with shock and dismay, the USA administration hurl insults, verbal attacks, and threats of more tariffs at us".

Trudeau was quick with his riposte: "So I'd say NAFTA is in good shape".

"Let's be serious and worthy of our people".

"He is an unprecedented president and he's outside of all of the normal boundaries of behaviour for an American president".

"But the conclusion I draw is that it is only through continued dialogue that we can find ways to work together to resolve the challenges we face".

Another stumbling block was the part regarding climate change, where the U.S. didn't want to see any reference to the Paris Agreement, from which the Trump administration has withdrawn, The Star reported.

"This week started with @realDonaldTrump boosting a Chinese company identified as a national security threat to the U.S. It ended with him standing up for Russian Federation and alienating our allies at the G7".

G7 allies seemed as perplexed as Canada at the sudden diplomatic row, and Germany and France accused Mr Trump of destroying trust and acting inconsistently.
