Resident Evil 2 remake announced for early 2019

Resident Evil 2 Remake Revealed, January 2019 Release Date Confirmed

Fans have clamored for a remake of the seminal title for years, and it finally surfaced during Sony's PlayStation 4 presentation ahead of E3 2018.

In a press release, Capcom states that "the Raccoon City outbreak will live again when Resident Evil 2 arrives on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25th, 2019!"

Not that there will be much of a wait though, as it's now got a confirmed release date of January 25.

The developers have announced that Resident Evil 2 Remake is going to have something for both veterans and those who are totally new to the survival horror series. In addition to huge visual improvements, fans of the old game will now be treated to new twists and turns, and even "a new way to play". The setting is Raccoon City, whose citizens have, as you could probably guess, been turned into ravenous zombies by a disastrous plague. Both Leon and Claire have their own separate playable campaigns, allowing players to see the story from both characters' perspectives. With Capcom's proprietary RE Engine powering a new photorealistic style, the characters themselves appear sharper than ever and the grotesque hordes of zombies are brought to life with a horrifyingly realistic wet gore effect.

As you might have noticed from the reveal trailer, Resident Evil 2 is made in the same engine as the 2017 release of Resident Evil VII. Thanks to the power of the PlayStation, a world of horror awaited players who dared to courageous the streets of the decaying city and explore the depths of the Raccoon City Police Department and beyond in a desperate bid to escape. Players will feel they're in the shoes of heroes Leon and Claire, terrified to step out of the light for fear of what flesh-eating nightmares might await them in the darkness. That's a pretty quick turnaround for a game that just got its first trailer.
