Trump's border security boss should resign over family separation policy, Democrats say

Earlier on Monday, Nielsen defended the Trump administration's immigration policy, saying, "We will not apologize for the job we do, or for the job law enforcement does for doing the job that the American people expect us to do".

Minutes after ProPublica posted a recording of crying children begging for their parents, Kirstjen Nielsen stepped up to the podium in the White House briefing room to answer questions from reporters, as well as a growing chorus of criticism from Democrats and Republicans. "And it can be taken care of quickly, beautifully, and we'll have safety".

The fate of that bill is unclear, as the White House has sent mixed messages on whether Mr Trump supports it or an alternative, more conservative immigration measure also expected to receive a vote.

Bush wrote a guest editorial for The Washington Post in which she compared the DHS actions to the USA policy of incarcerating Japanese American in camps during World War II.

Her "Be Best" platform, unveiled in May, is dedicated to children's well-being.

The US separated about 1995 children from their parents and detained them between mid-April and May 31, according to the Office of Refugee Resettlement at the Department of Health and Human Services, which is responsible for their care. The government says it separated almost 2,000 children from adults at the USA southern border over the course of six recent weeks.

Customs and Border Protection released new pictures from inside the centralized processing center in McAllen, Texas, on Sunday, June 17, 2018.

But the policy has drawn condemnation from medical professionals, religious leaders and immigration activists, who warn that some children could suffer lasting psychological trauma. The settlement says the government is required to release immigrant children from detention without unnecessary delay - generally within 20 days - to parents, relatives, or licensed programs.

Almost 2,000 children separated from adults at border
Since then, the administration has been steadily eroding protections for immigrant children and families. Not only could they not pick up or touch the children; they could not get their parents for them.

Nielsen insisted that it's not that she doesn't know where they are, it's that it's not her department. However, there is no law mandating the separation of families.

The Trump administration wants Congress to limit the period in which unaccompanied children may apply for asylum to one year after their arrival in the USA, and it wants to end "abuse" of a visa known as the Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) visa, which allows unaccompanied children to obtain green cards if abuse, abandonment, or neglect prevents them from reunifying with one or both of their parents.

How is this not specifically child abuse for these innocent children who are indeed being separated from their parents?

President Donald Trump has been placing blame on his administration's policy on Democrats. "I will tell you that nobody likes this policy". "And the government should have a commitment to transparency and accountability".

On Sunday, Trump tweeted, "The Democrats should get together with their Republican counterparts and work something out on Border Security & Safety".

"Stop lying to the American people".

"There's no law requiring the separation of families".
