US, Mexico and Canada to host 2026 World Cup

USA-Canada-Mexico to host World Cup 2026

The North American bid of the United States, Mexico and Canada easily won Wednesday's vote from FIFA's member associations to host the 2026 World Cup.

The North American bid beat competition from Morocco, which was hoping to become just the second African country to host soccer's biggest worldwide tournament.

Morocco, which has now lost five bid campaigns, was classy in defeat - congratulating the North American winners.

"Hosting a FIFA World Cup™ is an extraordinary honor and privilege", said Steven Reed, President of Canada Soccer and Co-Chair of the United Bid.

"Football is the only victor", US Soccer boss Carlos Cordeiro said, according to BBC.

The tournament will be played across 11 cities in 12 stadiums and the opening game takes place at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow between hosts Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia on the June 14.

The 2026 World Cup will head to North America for the fourth time and will be the first with 48 teams taking part.

The plan is that Canada and Mexico would each host 10 matches, while 60 matches would be played in the United States.

Fortnite On Nintendo Switch Doesn't Have Save The World Mode
If you play the game on mobile or Xbox One and not PS4, however, then you should be good to go with no issues whatsoever. You won't be able to simply log into their accounts on Switch consoles or any other device that can run the game.

Mexico has twice hosted the World Cup, in 1970 and 1986.

Both bids made their final appeals to UEFA voters in Moscow on Tuesday, with Morocco and United expected to get a vast show of support from their respective confederations.

Delegates had been faced with a clear choice - the joint North American bid boasts modern, established stadiums and well-developed transport links underpinned by Mexican football fervour.

So Morocco concentrated its pitch on the country's undisputed passion for football, the notion that Africa deserves another World Cup after South Africa 2010, its far more compact offering and Euro-friendly time zone.

In qualification for the 2018 World Cup, the U.S. surprisingly finished fifth in a group of six countries in the fifth round of qualification, only ahead of Trinidad & Tobago.

And it's great that this family has "a wonderful tradition" of gathering on the eve of the championship in the city where the opening match is to take place, Putin added. The north African nation would have to build numerous stadiums required for the event. The U.S. team failed to qualify this year.

Canada's only appearance at the World Cup came in 1986 when it loss all three of its games and crashed out in the first round.

Ghana will not be participating in the voting process to elect the 2026 World Cup host which takes off anytime soon.
