What Meghan's dad made Prince Harry promise before he blessed their marriage

Doria Ragland

"And then: "(She said) 'Of course we'll have to call him 'H" so no one knows we're talking about Harry'".

Thomas Markle told Good Morning Britain he deeply regretted not being there.

Elsewhere in the interview, Thomas talked about what Prince Harry supposedly said about Donald Trump, those staged paparazzi photos, and more.

Markle said the most important phone call was when Prince Harry asked for his blessing to marry Meghan.

He said he pulled out of attending and walking his daughter down the aisle for her second marriage because he couldn't get over what happened. It may not go over well in Kensington Palace, notes BuzzFeed, given that the 73-year-old is offering up details of his phone conversations with Prince Harry.

Bookies Ladbrokes give Harry and Meghan odds of 4/6 of making the announcement in 2018.

But Mr. Markle said he watched the wedding from his home. "They were very forgiving", he said, adding that the couple still maintained they were looking forward to his involvement in the wedding. "I wasn't nervous. Ten thousand miles apart it's hard to be nervous".

Bomber strikes gathering of mostly Taliban members celebrating cease-fire, official says
It is the Taliban's first ceasefire since the government they ran was toppled by the 2001 US-led invasion. Dozens of unarmed Taliban militants entered cities on Saturday to celebrate an unprecedented ceasefire .

Markle said that as well as Harry, he would one day like to meet the queen.

But that comfort led to some conversations about politics, which is tricky territory for Prince Harry, as the Daily Mail points out.

His claims will cause ructions because royals must remain strictly politically neutral - although Harry's father Charles is known for his outspoken views and numerous letters lobbying ministers. "I just wish it could have been my hand holding my daughter's not his, but I think he was wonderful for doing it", said Thomas.

"He said, 'Give Donald Trump a chance.' I sort of disagreed with that".

He said: "Over the last few weeks, everybody has had different opinions, some people said I was faking my heart attack, some people said I was skipping out, all kinds of stories were coming out about me, negative ones". He looked very handsome and my daughter looked very lovely. "I certainly hope he has".

It comes after Meghan's dad Thomas Markle appeared on Good Morning Britain today and took it upon himself to announce that the newlyweds wish to start a family very soon.

He said Trump was discussed at least once. "It was incredible watching her", he said. Just days before the event, Markle had heart surgery - he had three stents implanted - and said he would not be able to make it to the wedding. There was no real commitment for it. And I said, 'You're a gentleman. But news about Prince Harry expressing certain political views follows controversy from two years ago when Queen Elizabeth was being accused of backing Brexit in the European Union referendum.
