Why Did Google Remove Uber Booking From Maps?

Early a year ago Google announced that it was partnering with Uber to offer integration with the popular ride-sharing service directly within Google Maps. However, in order to complete the booking, the Maps app will now open the Uber app. The feature is still live in India, but we are sure when the company will remove it. This particular feature will no longer work as of the latest app updates.

Google made a fuss about it when it originally launched in January 2017. Users were able to enter a location, identify their route, then check Uber prices and request a ride without ever leaving the Maps app.

Google is constantly adding new features and functionality to its array of mobile apps, which is why today's news is so surprising. To actually hail a cab, they have to open the Uber app.

Why Did Google Remove Uber Booking From Maps?

Last year, Google introduced a feature in its navigation app - Google Maps - using which the users were able to book a ride with Uber easily.

The ability to book an Uber through Maps allowed users to avoid the official Uber app, which has previously been criticised for its aggressive location tracking.

Last year Google announced that Uber would be integrated within Google Maps. Also, a partner at CapitalG became a board member at Lyft. Google removed the feature from that other platform's app not too long ago as well. Neither Google nor Uber has offered any explanations as to why this change has taken place. If Google was looking to cut ties with Uber, why not go all the way? As of now, Google hasn't confirmed anything as to why it dropped the feature.
