'Ant-Man & the Wasp' Dominates Weekend Box Office!

Movies like this one are sorely needed and are a flawless example of how to keep things simple without having to rely on linking characters to the interconnected cinematic universe. Disney-Pixar's "Incredibles 2" picked up another $35.7 million overseas and $29 million domestically for a global weekend total of $64.7 million.

Be that as it may, it makes Ant-Man and the Wasp's slightly disappointing opening... well, disappointing. While under normal circumstances this number would be considered a win since it's up $18.8 million from the first Ant-Man's opening ($57.2 million), it is still below industry expectations for the first Marvel Studios film after the record-breaking Avengers: Infinity War. Sequels everywhere! And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how you get ants. (August 3), Italy (August 14), Portugal (August 15) and Japan (August 31), with the Chinese date still yet to be determined. That could make it hard to surpass the $180 million domestic run of the original Ant-Man, which had some impressive legs, but only time will tell. Internationally, Incredibles 2 has made US$269 million. France quickly ranks as the sixth largest market for Incredibles 2 behind China ($48.7m), Mexico ($33.8m), Australia ($24.6m), Brazil ($15.4m) and Russian Federation ($14.3m).

Coming in third is Universal and Amblin's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which brought in an estimated $28.5 million for the three-day weekend and has now pushed its domestic cume to $333.3 million as it begins its third week in release. The studio has had a string of box office hits in 2018 with "Avengers: Infinity War" racking up over $2 billion and counting, and "Black Panther" passing $1.3 billion globally.

A look at what's ahead in the World Cup
As with the previous knockout rounds, if a game finishes level after 90 minutes it will go to extra time for another 30 minutes. At that point it seemed he would be a lock for England's World Cup squad but injury put paid to his chances.

With the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp, Marvel Studios now has their 20th movie that has opened in the #1 spot at the box office. The horror prequel was only able to rake in $17 million. The First Purge looks as if it might not climb to the same heights as its predecessors after a slightly softer opening and a "B-" CinemaScore, but given the film's $13 million budget it doesn't take almost as much for these films to turn a tidy profit.

New offering "The First Purge" launched overseas with $10.9 million in 26 markets, including $2.2 million in the United Kingdom and Ireland, $2.1 million in France, $1.5 million in Germany, and $1.1 million in Spain. After all, their last five openings easily crossed the $100 million dollar mark on opening weekend without even trying, and Ant-Man only pulled in $76 million. This is a notably strong performance given the impact of England's World Cup Quarter-Final game.
