Brewers Pitcher Josh Hader Apologizes for Homophobic and Racist Tweets

Brewers lefthanded pitcher Josh Hader responded to racist and homophobic tweets from 2011 and 2012 that resurfaced during the 89th All-Star Game on Tuesday night.

Many offensive tweets that included racist and homophobic thoughts from Hader surfaced during the game.

The tweets resurfaced after Hader allowed a three-run home run to the American League's Jean Segura in the eighth inning of the All-Star Game, which the AL went on to win 7-5 in 10 innings.

Hader said he found out about the Twitter backlash when he left the game, and someone said he needed to find out what was going on. The 24-year-old deleted his account before the game even finished, then faced reporters about the insensitive tweets after the game. "As a child, I was immature, and I obviously said some things that were inexcusable". "That doesn't reflect on who I am as a person today". 'I really don't know exactly what's all out there'. "You can't, there's no excuse for what was said".

Major League Baseball said they will consider making a statement on the situation tomorrow, according to the LA Times Bill Shaikin.

"This is not who I am and will use this as an opportunity to better myself".

Hader said he had not spoken to family members and, when asked if that would be a hard conversation, responded, "I was young, immature and stupid".

"There's no excuses for what was said or what happened", he said.

The driver immediately contacted authorities and requested assistance, stating that she thought she "hit a person or animal". She then texted 911 saying she needed help, which MI state police said is "the same as a 911 call".

"I'm sure there's some lyrics, some rap lyrics being tweeted", Hader said.

Hader said he did not "vividly" remember the tweets.

Teammate Lorenzo Cain added: "We all say insane stuff when we're young, that's one reason why I don't have social media, because you always get in trouble for it".

Cain was asked if he was surprised to hear about the tweets. It won't happen again.

"The guy I know, he's a great guy", said Yelich.

'We've all said insane stuff growing up, even when we're 17, 18 years old, ' Cain said. "He was young. We all say some insane stuff when we're young. We'll move on from it". I'm ready for any consequences for what happened seven years ago.

He now boasts a 1.50 earned-run average while allowing just four home runs in 48 innings pitched.

"I'm completely and utterly embarrassed and feel awful to have put the fans, my teammates and the Blue Jays organizion in this position".
