CryptoKitties to release a Mobile App on HTC’s Flagship Phone

After announcing a fall in sales of nearly 70% last week, HTC has taken the surprising step of announcing that it will launch a blockchain-powered smartphone called the Exodus in Q3 of 2018.

In contrast to other smartphones, the new product - which was first announced in May - would be designed for decentralized applications using blockchain, the distributed-ledger technology that has powered the rise of cryptocurrencies, among other things.

HTC blockchain phone, Exodus scheme. This app has been tipped to launch even before the Exodus phone, and it should be first available on the latest HTC devices.

It's not the first time we hear about HTC's upcoming blockchain smartphone, also known as Exodus, and not to be confused with the Exodus cryptocurrency wallet. And to attract the target market more, HTC has partnered with CryptoKitties, a highly popular blockchain-based game wherein players collect and breed virtual cats instead of Cryptocurrency. Chen did say that the Exodus will be "comparable" to the Finney, another blockchain smartphone that's priced at $1,000 and manufactured by Sirin Labs.

When Chen announced the device back in March, he said: "We envision a phone where you own your own key, your own identity, and data, and your phone is the hub". HTC claims that each phone serves as its own blockchain node, part of the network that helps secure blockchain systems. "I'm excited about the opportunity it brings to decentralize the internet and reshape it for the modern user", Phil Chen HTC's Chief Crypto Officer said.

Nawaz, Maryam arrested, taken to Islamabad
Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz arrived in London prior to Eid-ul-Fitr and are now there due to Kulsoom Nawaz's prolonged illness. Security has been beefed up at New Islamabad International Airport ahead of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's arrival.

HTC has started a website for Exodus where users can sign up to be informed when it's available.

The company said it will release further details and specs of the Exodus phone "in the coming months", which is amazingly imprecise for a phone that's scheduled to launch in said coming months. Users are able to track the availability of rare digital assets through web pages that pull data from the blockchain.

In an interview, the HTC reps mentioned the company's plans to launch an HTC utility token one day. The game will be heading to the HTC U12+ ahead of its arrival on Exodus.

Whether the appetite for a Blockchain-focused smartphone is there, remains to be seen.
