Defending champ Joey Chestnut sets record with 74 hot dogs

Ten-time and defending Nathan's Famous Men's Champion Joey Chestnut center participates in Nathan's Famous International Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest weigh-in at the Empire State Building on Tuesday

After a somewhat lengthy review, official scorers determined Chestnut had indeed broken the world record with 74 hot dogs and buns consumed in 10 minutes.

According to ESPN, longtime Coney Island announcer George Shea told The Associated Press the judging was not up to snuff during this year's Nathan's hot dog eating contest. Sudo has plans to enter this year's competition as well. Apparently the counters had missed a couple of plates' worth of hot dogs, putting his number 10 higher than initially reported. The defending champion won his 11th Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4.

Already laying claim to the title of world's best consumed of tubular "meat", Jaws won Nathan's Famous July Fourth hot dog eating contest for a insane 11th time, setting a new high mark of 74 hot dogs along the way - including the buns. According to Major League Eating, the body that oversees professional eating contests, Chestnut once ate almost 13 pounds of deep-fried asparagus in 10 minutes and 55 glazed donuts in the same amount of time.

New Jersey native Carmen Cincotti finished second by eating 64 hot dogs. Last year, he almost equaled that mark with 72 dogs.

Who knew eating hot dogs could be an extreme sport?!

Pompeo to return to North Korea
Physically, we would be able to dismantle the overwhelming bulk of their programs within a year", Bolton said. He said satellite images show that North Korea has expanded a nuclear center and a missile production center.

The competitive eater, a San Jose resident, will defend his Nathan's title at Coney Island on Wednesday, the Fourth of July.

The women's competition begins at 11 a.m. EST and the men's competition will start at 12:30 p.m. EST.

The first competition was held in 1972 and was won by Jason Schechter who only ate 14 hot dogs. While her grand total was four fewer than her tally previous year, it was nine more than the closest challenger, Michelle Lesco. Get the full story on this annual event here.

But that wasn't enough competition for Scott, who was eating hot dogs three at a time, coming in as the clear victor after quickly eating a total of seven.
