Democrats Want Trump's Helsinki Interpreter To Testify. Can She?

US President Donald J. Trump

After Donald Trump faced a slew of criticism for apparently siding with Vladimir Putin during a press conference in Helsinki, the U.S. leader added a new element to his account of the summit on Wednesday.

Federal Bureau of Investigation director Christopher Wray insisted Wednesday evening that the USA intelligence community view has not changed.

McFaul tweeted on Wednesday: "I hope the White House corrects the record and denounces in categorical terms this ridiculous request from Putin".

However, during a White House news briefing later Wednesday, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump's words were misinterpreted.

Trump continues to face questions about the Helsinki news conference with Putin on Monday, and has been forced to walk back its most controversial moment where he apparently sided with the Russian president against the findings of his own intelligence agencies on poll interference.

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats has since reiterated his support of the conclusions of multiple intelligence agencies that Russians meddled in the election.

Trump appears to contradict DNI Dan Coats' assessment of ongoing efforts by Russian Federation to interfere in US elections; Peter Doocy reports from the White House.

The phrase also appeared on the front of The New York Times on Wednesday.

What exactly did Trump say?

The palm leaf brooch. "QE rolled up to tea with the Trumps wearing the brooch her mother wore to her father's STATE FUNERAL". The green flower brooch is understood to have been purchased by the Obamas from the Tiny Jewel Box store in Washington DC.

Ms Sanders said Mr Trump meant he did not want to answer questions. The one-on-one meeting between Putin and Trump lasted more than two hours; later delegation members joined the presidents for a working lunch.

Sanders, who was in the room when Vega asked the question, said she interpreted it differently and was not reversing Trump's position.

"We believe the threat still exists, which is why we are taking steps to prevent it", the White House spokeswoman said, AFP reported. There are things the White House can point to, steps this administration has taken that do take a tough approach to Russian Federation. So there are some tough measures the White House can point to.

Trump added: "Just like I consider myself to be responsible for things that happen in this country".

Democrats say the woman who translated for Trump - and the notes she likely took - could provide critical information about the meeting.

The day after meeting with Putin, Trump said that he misspoke.

On Monday, Trump sent shockwaves through the USA when during a joint press conference with Putin he brushed aside the U.S. intelligence community's conclusion that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 United States presidential election. If he says I would accept, I will tell you, though, it better not be. "On the world stage in front of the entire globe, the President of the United States essentially capitulated and seems intimidated by Vladimir Putin".

Jackson further pressed Sanders, asking how the president could possibly have any credibility when he just says "LOL JK" a day later. "I can only say that I do have confidence in our intelligence agencies as now constituted".
