Djokovic reaches first Wimbledon semi-final since 2015

Djokovic beats darkness to reach quarter-finals

Novak Djokovic felt he was a different player to the Wimbledon victor of old but comparisons were inevitable on Wednesday as the Serb rolled into the semi-finals for the first time since 2015.

The 31-year-old will play second-seeded Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the last four. "I need to recover to give my best".

But the Argentine broke back immediately with a volley and then saved another break point at 5-5 with an ace.

The 24th-seeded Nishikori was able to attack Djokovic's second serve and had a chance to take the lead when he was 0-40 up at 2-2 in the third set.

When Nishikori then bounced his own racket against the court in the fourth set without being given a warning, Djokovic yelled out "double standards" toward the umpire's chair - drawing boos from the Centre Court crowd. A final break clinched with a forehand victor, and the match was lost.

"Being absent from the tour for six months but then coming back, going back for surgery again as the season started, was too much mentally to handle". "His consistency, the way he plays such great tennis week in and week out", said Anderson.

"I know how I threw the racket, but [Nishikori] threw a racket in the fourth set and the umpire said he didn't see it. I think that's not fair".

Victory always appeared likely to be a tall order for Nishikori, who has lost to three-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic in 13 of 15 previous matches. Indignation that he has not made it past the quarter-finals in any of the past six. I didn't harm the grass. I don't want to stop here.

Rafael Nadal needed nearly five hours to beat Juan Martin del Potro and set up a Wimbledon semi-final with Novak Djokovic.

"Down two sets to love I tried my best to keep fighting".

"I kept telling myself to keep believing".

In a nail-biting 4-hour and 13-minute classic, it was 36-year-old Federer's earliest exit at the All England Club since his shock second round defeat against Sergiy Stakhovsky in 2013. Today was one of those days.

'I feel like I'm peaking at the right moment.

In his first Wimbledon semifinal, Anderson will face 2016 runner-up Milos Raonic or ninth-seeded John Isner.

Djokovic is through to his eighth Wimbledon semi-final, an achievement bettered by only three players in the Open Era. Federer ended up with more points won than Anderson in this match, but ultimately the difference came down to two unforced errors. The Swiss previously won 34 straight sets between the third round in 2005 and the final in 2006.

Federer, meanwhile, had his serve broken four times - the first four times his serve was broken during this Wimbledon run.
