Donald Trump conference with Vladimir Putin stormed by protester

President Donald Trump shakes hand with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of the press conference after their meeting at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki Finland Monday

The top USA intelligence official on Monday stood by what he called "clear" assessments of Russian meddling in the 2016 election after President Donald Trump cast doubt on that conclusion following a summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

He spoke despite 12 Russians being indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller Friday over claims they hacked Democrat computers and spread damaging material about the party ahead of the 2016 election.

House Speaker Paul Ryan delivered a strongly worded statement, saying there's "no question" that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 presidential election, and noting that USA intelligence agencies and a House panel agreed.

At a joint press conference following the summit, Putin commented that Trump "paid particular attention" to Israel's security, reported the Jerusalem Post.

"I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today", the president said during a news conference after his summit with Putin.

"I get the feeling, I've seen it first-hand actually, sometimes the president cares more about how a leader treats him personally than forcefully getting out there and pushing against things that we know have harmed our nation", Corker said.

Trump's answer to a question on election interference, in which he attacked US Democrats rather than Moscow's spies, "will be seen by Russian Federation as a sign of weakness and create far more problems than it solves", Graham charged.

Trump took the ball and thanked Putin for the gift.

"Today's press conference in Helsinki was one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory", McCain said in the statement. President Trump opened his statement by saying that he was there "to continue the proud tradition of bold American diplomacy", and added that diplomacy and dialogue were preferable to conflict and hostility.

The Washington Times reported Putin offered to work with the U.S.in analyzing cyberattacks. The Russian agents are accused of hacking email accounts controlled by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's campaign and publicizing messages.

He says lawmakers and former intelligence officials criticizing Trump include those from both parties who are opposed to his presidency.

Putin insisted that he treated Trump with "utter respect" and again denied knowing that the then tycoon was in town during the 2013 trip in question.

"Do you believe the United States is a democracy?" Trump said in a tweet ahead of the meeting.

The president did not elaborate on Putin's idea.

Top Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer of NY, says never in the history of the country has a USA president supported an adversary the way Trump supported Putin.

"I never thought I would see the day when our American President would stand on the stage with the Russian President and place blame on the United States for Russian aggression".
