Donald Trump Echoes Rudy Giuliani: 'Collusion Is Not A Crime'

MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace put the freakish spectacle of Rudy Giuliani's latest media blitz in context Monday, showing how convoluted and twisted President Donald Trump's defenses of his own actions with regard to Russian interference in the 2016 election have become.

The president believes it's time for special counsel Robert Mueller, who was supposed to be investigating Democrat claims of Trump campaign collusion with Russian Federation, either to put up or shut up.

Giuliani dodged when asked by CNN's Alisyn Camerota about whether Trump knew about the infamous 2016 Trump Tower meeting - in which a Kremlin-connected lawyer offered Donald Trump Jr., Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner and indicted former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort dirt on Hillary Clinton.

Mueller might decide, for example, that a crime was committed if he finds evidence that an American was involved in the hack of Democrats, either by soliciting it or paying someone to do it.

So far, special counsel Robert Mueller has accused the Russians of hacking into Democrats' computers and stealing emails, as well as trying to stoke US tensions before the 2016 election using social media.

"Collusion is a crime", said Rosenberg, who once headed the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Rudy Giuliani is purposely exchanging "Conspiracy" for "Collusion" to intertwine a legal term of art with a political one. Instead of clarity, he parroted back the increasingly common refrain of "collusion is not illegal!".

Acknowledging that Manafort's trial begins on Tuesday, Giuliani said, "Right, and he has no information incriminating of the president - I know that for a fact". "President Trump did nothing wrong", he wrote.

Later, Giuliani phoned in to Fox News seeking to clarify his earlier comments, telling anchor Harris Faulkner that "it's a very, very familiar lawyer's argument that...the alternative, that my client didn't do it, and even if he did, it's not a crime".

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks during a joint news conference with Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in the East Room of the White House in Washington, U.S., July 30, 2018. While the Mueller team remains mum on all fronts, there really is no solid evidence that this probe will be ending anytime soon.

Mueller is investigating whether Trump campaign officials worked with Moscow to try to sway the 2016 United States presidential election.
