Harvey Weinstein Pleads Not Guilty to Additional Sexual Assault Charges

Harvey Weinstein pleads not guilty in third sex assault case

Weinstein still faces almost a dozen lawsuits filed by some of the 80 women who have accused him of sexual assault and harassment.

Brafman identified her in court as a former film production assistant who went public last October with allegations that Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on her in 2006 at his Manhattan apartment.

Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood producer, pleaded not guilty to three additional sex crime charges in Manhattan Criminal Court in NY on Monday.

"He's 66 years old with no criminal record", said Brafman, arguing that if Weinstein moved to New York City he would be hounded by media and would have to deal with a "circus atmosphere". The latest charges include two counts of predatory sexual assault, which carry a maximum life sentence, and one count of the criminal sexual act.

A judge released Weinstein on the same $1 million bail he posted at his first arraignment involving two other accusers and was allowed to return to his Westport, Connecticut home.

Weinstein's lawyer said he expects more charges to be laid.

Speaking outside the courthouse, lawyer Benjamin Brafman said his client - who was described as looking "pasty and pale" by reporters - was innocent.

"A Manhattan Grand Jury has now indicted Harvey Weinstein on some of the most serious sexual offenses that exist under New York's Penal Law", Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said in a statement.

Gloria Allred, who said she represented the unnamed third alleged victim in Weinstein's case, challenged Brafman to put Weinstein on the witness stand to defend himself. In addition to the assault claim that brought him to court Monday, Weinstein is accused of raping an unidentified woman in a hotel room in 2013 and forcing a former actress, Lucia Evans, to perform oral sex at his office in 2004.

The accusations against Weinstein sparked the #MeToo movement that has seen hundreds of women publicly accuse powerful men in business, politics and entertainment of sexual harassment and abuse, lifting a shroud that had long shielded such behavior.

Several actresses and models accused Weinstein of criminal sexual assaults.

Weinstein has steadfastly denied all accusations of nonconsensual sex. In addition to the NY criminal proceedings, authorities in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and the United Kingdom are also pursuing potential criminal charges.

NY police said in early November that they were investigating allegations by another Weinstein accuser, the Boardwalk Empire actress Paz de la Huerta, who told them in October that he raped her twice in 2010.

The Associated Press generally does not identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they come forward publicly.

Through his company and Miramax, Weinstein won plaudits and awards for movies including "Shakespeare in Love", "Pulp Fiction", "Sex, Lies and Videotape", "The Crying Game" and "The King's Speech".
