Heat Continues With Storm Chances This Afternoon

Heat Advisory Excessive Heat Watch and Warnings

An excessive heat warning will be in effect from noon today until 10 p.m. Monday for Livingston and other area counties.

The most intense heat and humidity will likely last into early next week, with Monday and Tuesday both seeing high temperatures return into the upper 90s and triple-digit heat indices.

"A prolonged heat wave will start on Saturday and intensify Sunday and Monday, with the highest heat index values each afternoon", the advisory said.

The heat wave continues for central IN this Sunday. Officials also encourage people to ensure pets have enough food and water.

During the hottest hours on Saturday, tens of thousands of people are expected to attend hundreds of "families belong together" rallies in cities across the country to protest President Donald Trump's controversial immigration policy. Temperatures will be slightly cooler on Sunday, but that is a relative term.

Though the temperatures over the Northeast will not reach the extreme highs of the Midwest and Central Plains, the duration of the heat will be significantly longer.

A cold front will move south across the area Friday with a better chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Philadelphia, which hit 92 degrees on Sunday with a heat index of 105, similarly sounded the alarm to its residents and visitors about the unsafe heat.

The heat continues into the week, with temperatures reaching well into the 90s each day. "Excessive exposure to heat can cause a range of heat-related illnesses, from heat rash and heat cramps to heat exhaustion and heat stroke". Not only that, but it will be important to put on sunscreen if you plan on spending time outdoors and be sure to reapply it often.

Slow down. Reduce, eliminate or reschedule strenuous activities until the coolest time of the day. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. If someone has these symptoms, you should call 9-1-1 immediately and take action to keep that person cool until help arrives.
