John Malkovich Joins Jude Law in The Young Pope Follow-Up Series

HBO's odd, iconoclastic limited series The Young Pope ended on a note of seeming finality, so it makes sense that the follow-up wouldn't be a sequel so much as a new limited series with a few recurring characters.

New details about the director's television follow-up to "The Young People" have emerged (via Deadline) and most exciting is the confirmation that Jude Law will be reuniting with Sorrentino for "The New Pope". John Malkovich is also joining the series. Whether or not Law will reprise that role, given the uncertainty of the character's future at the end of the first series, is unknown. He wasn't in The Young Pope, but that oversight is being rectified for The New Pope, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sorrentino wrote The New Pope alongside collaborators Umberto Contarello and Stefano Bises, and filming is due to begin in Italy this November-which is pretty much the exact timetable that was given last May when The Young Pope Season 2 was announced.

In The Young Pope, Law starred as the fictional first American pope, who is stubbornly resistant to the Vatican stewards. The two-time Oscar nominee will star alongside Law, the lead of The Young Pope.

Roger Federer leaves Nike for Uniqlo
It's not clear whether Nike will continue to market or sell its trademark Federer shoe and clothing line with his initials. Golfer Adam Scott and tennis star Kei Nishikori were its best known endorsers until Monday.

Two-time Oscar nominee and Emmy victor Malkovich earned best supporting Oscar nominations for In the Line of Fire and Places in the Heart. He was most recently seen as a Russian oligarch on Billions.

The Young Pope, created and directed by Sorrentino, debuted on Sky in October 2016 and on HBO in January 2017.
