Jordan Henderson Headbutted In The Penalty Area Vs Colombia, No Red Card

World Cup-England

Tempers flare during the first half of England's Fifa World Cup round of 16 match against Colombia.

Colombia forced the extra period when defender Yerry Mina headed a last-gasp equalizer, scoring for the third straight game.

A miss from Mateus Uribe and a Jordan Pickford save from Carlos Bacca in the shootout proved to be Colombia's downfall and ensured England won a penalty shootout at a World Cup for the first time in its history.

Pickford saved Carlos Bacca's effort in suddent death to end England's curse from 12 yards and to set up a last eight tie with Sweden.

The result means the Three Lions will face Sweden on Saturday, as they continue their quest for a first title since 1966.

Rodriguez was not available for the match after failing to recover from an injury from the last match.

"It's a great night to win a penalty shootout".

Harry Kane gave England the lead midway through the second half from the penalty spot, in a game which referee Mark Geiger threatened to lose control of.

World Cup last-16 match report Brazil v Mexico, 02 July 2018
After a stunning win over Mexico , Brazil secured a berth in the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2018 on Monday. Upsets in this tournament have already claimed the last two World Cup finalists and the last two World Cup winners.

And while Henderson might have been forgiven for spending his time thanking Dier for sparing him the kind of ignominy their manager Gareth Southgate once suffered for a spot-kick miss - he made time to console Colombia's star man Rodriguez.

A good move on the right from the Three Lions on 16 minutes saw Kieran Trippier make his way to the right byline before delivering a cross to the back post, where Kane steered a leaning header onto the roof of the net.

On paper, England's tilt with Colombia at Moscow's intimate Spartak Stadium is more or less a wash - England is 12th in the Federation Internationale de Football Association rankings and Colombia is 16th, not that the rankings have meant much in an upset-heavy World Cup that's already seen Germany, Portugal, Argentina and Spain eliminated. "When you look at the players they've got in the team and the way the qualified in their group as well, they've got some quality players and we need to be aware of that".

It's hard to criticise a goalkeeper after a shootout - it is sort of a lottery after all - but it's nice to celebrate them when they rise above the pressure and win the game for their team. It was their first ever World Cup win via penalty shootout.

Southgate made eight changes for the final group game against Belgium to keep his top players fresh for Colombia.

Expected Crowd Turnout: With its last hosting in this FIFA World Cup 208, Spartak Stadium is expected to be a jam-packed affair, as Colombia meet England, with a total crowd attendance of 44,800. Mina scored twice in three games for Colombia in the group stage, including the goal that beat Senegal and secured advancement.

As it happens, they hadn't even saved one since 1998.
