Liverpool give Keita Gerrard's No.8 shirt

Keita, who was team-mates with Liverpool FC winger Sadio Mane at Red Bull Salzburg, established himself as one of the top midfielders in the German top flight.

The Guinea global begins pre-season training with the non-World Cup members of Jurgen Klopp's squad on Monday, having waited a year for the opportunity after a deal was agreed with RB Leipzig last summer.

Naby Keita has already been working out at Melwood despite Liverpool FC's pre-season training not due to start until 2 July, according to reporter David Maddock. He gave me the No 8 jersey.

Midfielder Naby Keita is eager to help Liverpool build on their impressive run last campaign as the Guinea global prepares to complete his transfer to the Premier League club on Sunday.

"When it happened, it was a surprise and I didn't expect it", he said.

"I would say an eight, sometimes he can play as a six, but I could see him more as an eight behind the three strikers".

But with the players they have and Jurgen Klopp as manager, there's a sense that the Reds have so much more to give.

Keita has never met Oxlade-Chamberlain before but was given a warm welcome by the Englishman, who showed exactly why he's so well loved at Liverpool.

"When you see how they performed last season it makes me want to do the same and to be a part of this team".

"I actually think they've got to get better support".

"I also spoke with the coach [Jurgen Klopp], who told me about the project for the team and that motivated me to be here".

The excitement surrounding the arrival of the 23-year-old suggests Liverpool have signed an extraordinary talent on their hands-an individual who can transform the midfield, along with fellow new recruit Fabinho.
