Loris Karius: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp defends keeper after mistake in friendly

Liverpool transfer news John Barnes claims Jurgen Klopp must sign a new goalkeeper

According to a report by Daily Mail, Liverpool were leading 3-0 when Karius kicked a free-kick from 20 yards straight to Tranmere's substitute Johnny Smith.

Karius was at fault for two of Real Madrid's three goals in May's Champions League final defeat - after which it was revealed he was suffering from concussion - and Klopp knows the focus will continue to be on the 25-year-old.

'Loris conceded that goal, but we can not create a story after every mistake.

"I don't like it, he [Karius] doesn't like it, but it will happen so let's carry on".

Klopp was irritated by Liverpool's second-half display and by the continued focus on his German keeper, although that was unavoidable after an untimely error even in a pre-season friendly against League Two opposition.

He was asked how attention could be diverted away from Karius, saying: "You can stop it by not asking, promise?"

'It's obvious, we don't have to hide it, yes, he could have made that save.

Jurgen Klopp has dropped the biggest hint yet that he is prepared to stand by Loris Karius as Liverpool FC's first choice goalkeeper next season.

"[I want] to impress and give everything everyday to show the boss and help the whole team and show I can be a part of this Liverpool squad and go from there".

"I saw this situation 500 times in my life the ball hits his chest but what can you do".

"Two brilliant footballers make mistakes but we only talk about one".

"It was unbelievable how he played and then we wanted to get him in, but Leipzig didn't think that was the best idea in the world so they kept him".
